Skiing Tips For First Time Adventurers

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Being new to any kind of sport can be a little intimidating and skiing is no exception. If you are interested in pursuing this sport but have no background in it, you may not know where to begin. This is a potentially dangerous sport if not pursued with utmost caution and safety.

Finding a resort with beginner terrain is usually the place to begin. These terrains are available at most ski resorts. There is usually no need to find a resort with expert slopes for your first time on the mountain.

For your first time on the slopes you do not have to immediately go out and buy ski clothes. Make sure you check your closet before you buy anything on your first ski trip. You may find a black helmet in your closet that can be of use to you on your first ski attempt.

It is important to stay warm. With that said search for a warm turtleneck, sweater and winter jacket to keep your upper body warm. Snow and waterproof pants are essential, and beneath them make sure to wear long underpants. Jeans are not a practical choice of attire when skiing. Also prep your gloves to keep your hands warm.

Once you have tried skiing and find that it may be a sport you would like to pursue you can consider upgrading to ski wear. There are a number of clothing and accessories that are helpful to the regular skier. For instance, a ski helmet is used commonly by skiers because it helps protects the head from perilous falls.

Lift tickets are the next step in getting to the mountains to ski! Prices vary from resort to resort. Sometimes you will find discounts available, depending on the season you are visiting. Children and senior discounts may also be available.

You will most likely be able to rent your equipment such as skis and boots from the resort. This is probably the safer option as opposed to borrowing an old pair. Making an investment in a ski lesson given by a professional can help you start your ski journey on the proper foot.

New muscles will be worked and your body will be exposed to a new type of sport. Make sure to keep hydrated and well nourished. Follow your instructor’s guides in order to stay safe. Once you have completed your first day of skiing you can get warm with a steaming cup of your favorite warm drink and a delonghi space heater.
