Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Yellowstone and Yosemite are some of the most renowned and most known by outdoor lovers. Camping in Pennsylvania is not as well known as these other places. Pennsylvania, though not on the top of the list has other attractions that you should be aware of.

Most state parks are open seasonal. Pennsylvania has three state parks that are open year round. These parks are Little Pine, Ole bull, and Promised Land. The cold might be a factor for some campers. The state is located in the upper northeast and winters see snowfall and cold temperatures. This can be remedy by the cabins available at the campsites.

At one particular park Promised Land has a 422 acre lake, which fishing is a common pastime. During the winter season ice fishing is also a big hit among visitors. That is not the only attraction during the long winter months. There are hundreds of trails open for cross county skiing. Twenty three miles of trail is also open for snowmobiles. Along with the trailers and RV you can take to the campsite log cabins are available.

The seasonal state parks have just as much to offer. The top seven state parks are Champan,  Parker Dam, Gifford Pinchot, Shawnee, Pine Grove Furnace, Prince Gallitzin, and the huge  Pymatuning. The park has one of the biggest lakes that is well over seventeen thousand acres.

Before any camper voyages to their campsite, they must know the rules and regulations. Pennsylvania parks have textbook rules. These are rules such as no unauthorized fires, this is a for obvious reasons. No alcoholic beverages are allowed at the campsites or the state parks. This may be a bad thing for a few campers, though there are plenty of campsites outside of the state parks where having alcohol is legal. Choosing The Right Sleeping Bag Is Really Important

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

META: A sleeping bag is an essential part of your camping equipment but finding the right kind of sleeping bag is the most important task. If you truly do want a decent night’s sleep when you are camping, then it is in your best interest to get a sleeping bag that meets all your requirements.

Dependent on the type of environment you will be staying in is dependent on whether your sleeping bag will be efficient. You cannot possibly take a thinly padded sleeping bag to a freezing cold area and lie shivering all night. In order to gain a good nights sleep it is important you invest in a really good sleeping bag, especially since you will be spending a number of hours in it every night. Unless you are using an air mattress, make sure you invest in a sleeping bag that is padded. This will ensure you do not feel the hard uncomfortable ground below when sleeping. If you have taken the time to invest in perhaps 4 season tents, then selecting the sleeping bag should be easier.

There is plenty of choice in sleeping bags as they come in a variety of sizes, colours, shapes, material and designs. They do cost more money, but sleeping bags that are completely waterproof are available if you are not happy with the standard ones. Apart from being waterproof the outer fabric of the tent must have cross ventilation because without it the bag will only collect moisture and tend to get damp, making it impossible for you to lie inside the moisture-laden bag.

Also you must check that the fill material used for the stuffing is thick enough because you do not want to be having a hard sleepless night tossing and turning on those sharp rocks and twigs. Sleeping bags are stuffed with various types of stuffing. The most commonly used filling material are polyester fibres and goose down.

Sleeping bags with goose down filling are the most lightweight, can be folded into a small convenient roll besides which they keep you very warm. These are inefficient when wet, cost a great deal of money and are difficult to maintain. Synthetic filling on the other hand can retain body heat even if they get wet and are quite simple to maintain. The drawback to these types of sleeping bags is that they are very heavy and cumbersome to carry around.

So when you are look for a sleeping bag make sure it has a good heat retention ability. When purchasing your sleeping bag there are various factors to consider; check that it is neatly sewn in single compartments, the stitiching, the drawstrings and the hood. The minor details as well as the major should be checked thoroughly.

There are three different shapes of sleeping bags available in the market. The sleeping bag that provides the most amount of warmth and comfort is the mummy-shaped. The rectangular-shaped bag can be unzipped and attached to another sleeping bag of the same kind providing for more sleeping space. This type however, cannot retain much heat and is not really very comfortable. This one is warmer than the previous sleeping bag mainly due to the fact that it is a tapered sleeping bag. The downside is it only has limited movement.

To have a comfortable night and an enjoyable camping trip ensure that you have the right kind of sleeping bag along with the right tents for camping; this gives you enough warmth and a good rest to your back.
